Alternative Careers for STEM Researchers

1-on-1 meetings to start you on the right foot!

Are you approaching the end of your PhD or Postdoc funding?

Have you recently been laid off from a STEM/medical research job?

Are you exploring all possible career paths out there?

If you’re wondering what’s next for your career, you’re not alone. Navigating career transitions can feel confusing and overwhelming. But there are many options out there, some of which you may not have thought of yet.

Here are the types of career topics you can learn from me:

  • Alternative career roles for STEM / medical / clinical scientists.
  • Working as an independent scientific contractor or freelance scientist.
  • Working in the United States or Europe as a scientist if you’ve never worked in either of these places.

If these paths spark your curiosity, I’d love to help you explore them!

Real people have insights. Chatbots are only as good as what’s commonly available

What I offer is over 20 years of work experience in typical and alternative jobs.

I don’t hallucinate like AI chatbots do, so you get factual insights you can actually trust.

Chatbots are also only as good as what’s commonly found on the internet. Much of what I learned on the jobs had to be learned from people and from trial and error because the internet didn’t have all the answers. These are the types of insights I can share with you.

Remember, real people with real experiences are what AI companies always seek because we have the insights and experiences machines don’t have.

Alternative career roles

While many of you know about traditional careers after a PhD or other STEM degree (e.g., professorship, clinical work, and industry jobs), few have deep, firsthand experience with alternative career paths for highly skilled STEM professionals.

I’ve spent years navigating in non-mainstream roles, and I’m here to share what I’ve learned so you can save time and focus on your next step.

There’s also nothing to be ashamed of when working in other roles after a PhD or MD. You’re also not a coward for leaving the tenure-track path. Trust me, I’ve been there. We can talk more about this during our meeting.

Or want to know more about becoming a scientific contractor or freelancer?

The internet is filled to the rim with bloggers boasting about how they earned double as freelancers compared to what they were earning in their former day job.

In reality, there’s a lot more to freelance or independent contractor work than what’s visible on the surface.

As a full-time STEM/med./clin. researcher or student, you might not have any idea where to start as a solo entrepreneur nor what to believe when you try to learn this on the internet. What do you do about taxes? Where do you find work? And there’s much more!

I spent months reading up, talking to experienced professionals, and setting myself up for freelance work. I learned so much about starting this line of work.

If you’re new to independent scientific contractor / freelance work and you want to ask your questions live, let’s talk!
